Dear FirstName,
The statistics are appalling: In 2009 (the most recent year for which metrics are available), a shocking one out of 14 Virgin Islands youth were arrested for violent crimes. In 2010, more than 30% of our children were living in poverty and 7% of our teens dropped out of high school. Things have not changed much since then and our numbers continue to be higher than the national averages.
Project Promise was formed to address these issues. Our mission is to improve the lives of at-risk youth through mentoring, education, community service, career exploration, cultural activities and family services. Our after-school program will take a unique, holistic approach to addressing many of the challenges that St. Croix’s at-risk youth face. Participants will get the tools and support they need to acheive a future of excellence and success.
Over the next year, we will be completely renovating a building in downtown Christiansted that will house most of Project Promise’s programs; getting all of the pieces of our many programs in place; and recruiting and training staff and volunteers. I am writing today to ask for your support. Funds are needed for building renovations, start-up efforts and on-going operations once we open our doors.
Your donation of any amount – whether it is a one-time or annual donation, an on-going monthly commitment or even an offer of construction services or building materials – is very much needed and greatly appreciated.
I will be contacting you next week to answer any questions you may have about our organization, its efforts and the difference your support can make. In the meantime, please feel free to contact me at 340-513-0446 or resago26@yahoo.com.
Sincerely,
Resa O’Reilly
President
P.S. So many of our young people are at risk of facing a dismal future. Please help us change their lives and better our community!
